A medieval jewel in the heart of the limestone plateau

Gras is a small medieval village with several religious and vernacular buildings bearing witness to the rural life and agro pastoral past of the area. Terraced vineyards, lavender, dry stone walls and farmhouses in the middle of fields stretch out at the foot of the Dent de Rez Mountain, the highest point in the Southern Ardèche with its 719 meters. Strolling through the village you will notice the huge gray wall of the Balladuno Castle whose owners were famous medieval barons. The small Romanesque church of Saint-Blaise still surrounded by its graveyard goes back to the Middle Ages.

If you are in the area on August 15th, don’t miss the local festival where the Muse Terpsichore appreciates a dance every summer…
